CTODP Information

CTODPThe state legislature extended the deadline for making your Tuition Tax Credit contribution from December 31 to April 15?  That means you can now prepare your tax returns, see how much you are paying the state in income taxes and then decide how much you want to redirect to Catholic Education Arizona to benefit students attending our school.  Even if you wait until April 15, 2012 to make your contribution, as long as you make your contribution before filing your return you can apply the tax credit to your 2011 State tax return (contributions made after December 31 can also qualify as a charitable deduction on your 2012 Federal tax returns).

Catholic Education Arizona was established as a Scholarship Tuition Organization (STO) in 1998 and is a non-profit organization under the 501(c)(3) IRS tax code.

From the start, Catholic Education Arizona has held true to the social justice teachings of the Catholic Church, basing its scholarship awards, first and foremost on the financial need of those applying.  More than three-fourths of the 5,249 students who received scholarships for the 2009/10 school year were from families with an adjusted annual gross income of less than $60,000 and many live in neighborhoods where fewer than 50% of children graduate high school.  Although Catholic Education Arizona paid out $10.26 million in scholarships for the 2009/10 school year, it fell far short of meeting the total need of $24.2 million.  You can help bridge the gap by redirecting your tax dollars to Catholic Education Arizona and applying your payment to St. Louis the King.

Some concerns have been raised that redirecting your tax dollars to Catholic Education Arizona costs the state money.  In fact, the opposite is true.  Low-income students who receive Catholic Education Arizona scholarships are awarded an average of $1,955.  Therefore, for every $1,955 scholarship awarded by Catholic Education Arizona to a student who then attends a Catholic school, the state saves over $9,700 in public education costs for that student.  The more funding Catholic Education Arizona has to give out in scholarships, the more students will be afforded the opportunity to enroll in a Catholic school, lessening the demand placed on the state’s public school system.  You can do your part by redirecting your tax dollars to Catholic Education Arizona.

If you took advantage of the tax credit last year – THANK YOU.  We hope we can count on your continued support.  If you missed the opportunity last year, please consider redirecting your tax dollars today.  Even a small contribution can make a real difference in the life of a child.  Remember – redirecting your tax dollars to Catholic Education Arizona qualifies you for a dollar-for-dollar Arizona tax credit of up to $1,000 (married filing jointly) or $500 (single).
